Breast Lump Awareness: Early Signs, Self-Examination, Risks, Management & Prevention
Listen to
A breast lump is a localized swelling or mass in the breast that feels different from the surrounding tissue. A variety of conditions may cause it, both benign and malignant. Common non-cancerous causes include cysts, fibroadenomas, and infections like mastitis. Cancerous lumps are usually hard, irregular in shape, and painless, though not always. Hormonal changes can also lead to temporary lumps, particularly in younger women.
Early diagnosis is essential, especially to rule out breast cancer or begin prompt treatment if necessary. Regular self-exams help with detection. In this episode of the Breast Lump Podcast, we will explore what breast lumps are, their types, causes, warning signs, diagnostic methods, potential complications, and how to manage and prevent them.
