What is Plastic Surgery?

"Plastic Surgery" term originates from the Greek word "plastikos," which means to shape or mold. Plastic Surgery branch includes two main categories – Reconstructive Procedures and Cosmetic Procedures. Both are generally considered as sub-specialties of Plastic Surgery.

Some procedures performed are Skin Grafting, Flap Cover for Compound Fractures and other Tissue Defects, Cleft Lip and Palate Repair, Breast Reconstruction following a Mastectomy for Breast cancer, and Reconstructive surgery for Burn Injuries.

What is the Difference between Reconstructive Surgery and Cosmetic Surgery?

There is often significant overlap between Reconstructive and Cosmetic plastic surgery since they share many of the same underlying surgical principles.
