Breathe Well: Your Guide to Asthma Management

PACE Hospitals

Listen to

Asthma is a chronic respiratory disorder that causes inflammation of the lungs' airways, trouble breathing, wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath. Asthma symptoms range from moderate to severe and are frequently triggered by allergies, cold air, exercise, respiratory illnesses, or irritants such as smoke and smog. Genetic and environmental factors combine to produce asthma, which leads the immune system to overreact to specific triggers.

Asthma is incurable, although it can be treated with drugs like inhalers that lower inflammation and open the airways. Long-term control drugs can prevent symptoms, and quick-relief Inhalers immediately relieve asthma attacks. With adequate management, most asthmatics may lead active and healthy lives.
