Uterine Fibroid Symptoms, Causes, Complications and Prevention
By PACE Hospitals September 20, 2022
Nearly 20-80% of females will develop fibroids by the time they become 50 years of age. Uterine fibroid symptoms are not seen in most of the patients but in 30% have abnormal uterine bleeding (may cause pain and anaemia) and pelvic pressure or pain. Usually, the larger the fibroid, the more likely the symptoms appear.

Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE) is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat uterine fibroids by blocking the blood supply to the fibroids, causing them to shrink. The procedure involves inserting a catheter into the uterine artery through a small incision and releasing tiny particles to block the blood flow. While the UAE is generally safe, some potential side effects include pain, cramping, fever, and nausea, especially in the days following the procedure. Rare complications include infection or damage to surrounding tissues. Despite these risks, UAE offers a quicker recovery compared to traditional surgery and is an effective option for many women.
